Academic Explorer — find the subject that lights you up.

An 8-week program for students in Years 8–12 (Australia) and middle school (rest of world) to explore their academic interests and finish with a project of their own.

What it is

Your own expert, your own project.

Academic Explorer matches students in Years 8–12 (Australia) and middle school (rest of world) to an expert in the student's area of interest. It is a global program, and Heath Kirby Tutoring is involved in three ways:

Following your application and a successful interview, the student and academic build a unique project together. The interview is focused on information, so there is no need to prepare extensive answers to expected questions.

How the mentoring works

1:1, online, every week.

🧑‍🏫

1:1 mentoring

The mentoring takes place 1:1. This is not a group-based program, and sessions are held online weekly with your mentor.

🗓️

Student Portal

The student submits their major deadlines and weekly updates via the Student Portal, so progress stays visible.

🌱

No experience needed

There is no prior experience required. Curiosity about your area of interest is the starting point.

Who it is for

Years 8–12 in Australia, middle school worldwide.

Academic Explorer is for students in Years 8–12 (Australia) and middle school (rest of world). If a student has an interest they want to take further than the classroom allows, this is the program built for it.

Week-by-week structure

How the 8 weeks run.

The 8-week program is structured as outlined below.

🧭

Weeks 1–4

The student and mentor explore 4 different topics in your selected track.

🔎

Weeks 5–6

The student and mentor dive deeper into one topic area and define your project.

🛠️

Weeks 6–8

Build out your project with support from your Mentor.

Outcomes

Finish with something real.

The student finishes with a high-school level project of their own: a piece of work they chose, shaped and built with an expert beside them, and something concrete to point to when the next opportunity comes along.
